One thing pretty much everybody shares is the want of a nicer home.  It is the American dream to be able to buy a house and settle into it.Some of the times when people buy a house, they might not be able to afford a house that is perfect and improvements will need to be done. There are a bunch of improvements you could do to your home.  But in this article we will talk about one way that can really make a difference immediately.

The way I am suggesting to do is to have landscaping done in your yard.  Turning a simple yard with grass and flowers into something beautiful.  In my San Diego masonry contractors business we get asked to do this all the time.  We get asked to turn a simple yard into a work of art.Because it is what to expect when you do make a choice for some good landscaping. You really can make something bland into something beautiful.

This really makes a big difference in the home and it is a difference you can see right away. Because it isn’t like a remodel of a room. When you do have the landscaping done in the front it is noticeable by all.  If done right it can really make your home look great. In my interlocking pavers San Diego business we like to custom make all of our clients landscaping. We try and have the house’s theme match up with what we will do outside. This comes together wonderfully so that all the pieces look coordinated.

Some ways you can improve with landscaping is maybe adding a fountain to the front yard.Or you might want to include some interlocking pavers to the improved landscaping.Or you might want to do some custom concrete work. These things along with a few other things can really make a yard look great.

So it is hoped that you now see how doing some good landscaping can make your home better. With a planned out landscape, the design can really improve the look of your house. You can improve a yard that doesn’t look very good and make it real nice. This in turn makes your whole home look great.

The final beautifying touch to each new home, home remodel, or outdoor project is Landscaping.  It’s what makes the overall project great.  Landscape Design should be done to complement the exterior of the building and accent the overall architecture.  Desert landscaping and xeriscaping may often come from the residential side of landscape architecture and designing – which specialize in landscape design, creative exteriors, and outdoor ideas.  At the same time, landscape designers should be conscientious of upfront costs, maintenance costs, and long term upkeep.

My landscape experience stems from many years in Phoenix, where upfront costs were negligible, and the yearly maintenance costs (i.e. property maintenance, irrigation & other bills) were not a concern.  Hence came the important aspect of water-wise, sustainable xeriscaping for the desert climates.  With water being scarce, xeriscaping in the southwestern climates is very popular and a landscapers solution.  Desert landscaping & xeriscaping is such a beneficial, long-term solution that many city governments are offering cash rebates and tax rebates just for converting sod to desert landscaping.  Xeriscaping has been a very popular method of landscaping, and landscape designers have adapted this style for many of their clients.

As a Arizona landscape contractor, it’s the landscape designer’s job to design all aspects of desert & xeriscape ideas.  From Sonoran desert landscapes & Phoenix Landscaping, which include many assortments of Arizona cacti, saguaros, and agaves to Southwestern Xeriscapes that usually include many mid-level desert environments that can’t quite tolerate the hot Arizona summers.  Desert landscaping & Xeriscaping often include many of these following types of plant species:

  1. Traditional Color Plants- These desert landscaping plants are standard, normal desert plants that require standard water usage.  Some plants have high-flowering properties and attract hummingbirds.  Some common species that landscapers love are the cherry and russian sages, Echinacea, gaillardia, gayfeather, iris, lamb’s ears, yarrows, asters, columbines, or coreopsis.
  2. Arizona Desert Plants- Many of the species above would not sustain an Arizona summer, which is the reason for a second list of Arizona landscaping plants.  Red Bird of Paradise, Arizona Yellow Bells, Orange Jubilee, Texas Sage, Baja Fairy Duster are all popular favorites among the Phoenix landscape contractors.  Other standard species you will find in hot xeriscape regions may be the creosote, bursage, mexican hopseed, feathery cassia, ruellia katie, or bougainvillea species.
  3. Xeriscape Grasses- Landscape designers use grasses for accents or to fill in large areas.Pampas grass is one of the largest growing xeriscape grasses that can grow to over 6′ tall.  Deer grass is a great choice for grass accents too.  Groundcover & grouping grasses offer a nice fill-in effect in some of the milder climates of the southwest (blue fescue, blue grama, and others).
  4. Agaves- There are many various species of agaves, that range from the little agave parryi to the huge 5′ tall agave americana.  Agaves are very drought tolerant and perfect for xeriscaping because of their low maintenance and slow growth.
  5. Cacti-  Arizona landscape designers have the great selection of many selections of cacti – but most commonly, the Saguaro cactus (native to Arizona).  Saguaros make an excellent, bold impact on any desert landscape because of it’s huge mass and ability to look great during low-water conditions.  Cacti in desert xeriscaping will drastically reduce the need for water usage, and some incredible cacti considerations are:  Old Man, Totem Pole, Mexican Fence Post and Cholla.
  6. Desert Trees- Desert climate trees also require less water and less maintenance.  Properly placed trees and large shrubs can provide natural shade for some plants, as well as provide some natural wind break.  Landscape Designers love the Palo Verde, mesquite, and desert willow for some of their professional projects.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN YOUR LANDSCAPING PROJECT:

  • Review the regional requirements for xeriscaping species, plant locations and restricted varieties.  Because of their high water consumption and demand, some locations don’t allow the installation of turf or grass.
  • Research landscaping & xeriscaping plants that are good for your specific location.  Not all plants grow in all regions – in fact, some will do quite poorly if planted in the wrong space.
  • Research rainfall for your location and this can help you find plants and setup & plan for a good drip system.
  • Use groupings of plants, different colors, and mounding.  A good idea is to use big species of trees or plants for focal features, and under plant with smaller, colorful plants.
  • By watering in the morning, you can avoid excess evaporation, and more water will be used by your trees & plants.
  • Practice great irrigation methods – watering daily is not required, you should train your xeriscaping to use less water.
  • Remove old flowers & foliage to increase blooms & blooming seasons.
  • Reduce the quantity of sod in xeriscape designs, since they require lots of water.
  • The use of Phoenix landscape designers is a superb investment when considering the best of SW landscaping & Xeriscaping.

Lots of easy landscape ideas for the yard and garden can be done in just one weekend. You may have recently moved into a new home or have lived at the same location for many years and decide the yard needs a little pizazz.

There are new do it yourself kits now available, for example building your own gazebo that can take just a couple of hours to assemble and look like a million dollars. Visit your neighborhood garden center for your landscaping design ideas they may have displays and helpful employees to steer you in the right direction.

It is important to do a simple sketch with measurements of your back and front yard landscaping area. Note where the doors and windows of your home are. Decide what locations you want to change. Do you want an area for the kids? Would you like a vegetable garden or an outdoor kitchen? How about a small koi pond?

Make sure that you are aware of the amount of work your landscaping entails. For those who do not enjoy mowing a lawn or if there is a lack of natural rain having a lawn can be a tedious and sometimes difficult task to maintain. Items such as rock gardens or flowerbeds are just as visually enticing as having a lush, dark green space in your back yard. There are some families that enjoy having decorative artifacts such as a birdbath, fountain or even statues while others prefer to stick with an arrangement of complementary flowers or stone designs.

Your local climate will have a tremendous impact on the type of landscaping that you should have in place. Flowering plants that require a great deal of humidity will not thrive in a dry climate. While there are some plants that will need direct sunlight, there are others that prefer a shaded area in order to grow. If you are not proficient in the different types of flowers and plants that are best for your area, be sure to utilize local resources in order to check out the best selections for your planning purposes.

If your goal is to create something visual attractive with not much upkeep involved plant for all seasons. Get an assortment of evergreen shrubs and trees that look good all year. Mix in a few seasonal plants also. Ones that bare fruit in the spring and change color in the fall.

Don’t be afraid to get rid of your lawn. It is a huge consumer of time, fertilizer and water. Try filling in with a large brick patio area with stepping stones inviting a visitor to explore your yard and gardens. Landscape with river rock meander around the yard to mimic a dry creek.

Just because you are not an expert gardener does not mean you cannot plan out beautiful and easy landscaping ideas for the yard and garden. You will build your confidence, as well as your muscles, when you have completed your backyard project.

Every homeowner aspires to have a great looking lawn and tries everything that he or she can do to attain such a lawn. So many people assume incorrectly that only a professional landscaper can create a great looking garden. This is not true at all. Hiring a professional will definitely ease your work, but you can have a beautiful lawn without the help of a professional, as well.

Even though there is no dearth of lawn care equipment, there are some that are absolutely vital for the upkeep of your lawn. Without these tools, any kind of lawn care would become impossible. Some of these crucial tools are lawnmowers, rakes, aerators and shears.

Aerators are also quite important for lawn health because they create cavities, holes on the top layer of the soil. The allows the ground to move in a better way. Because or aeration water and vitamins get into the soil and reach the lawns roots. Not only this, it also enhances the levels of oxygen in the soil, and therefore helps the roots to prosper and flourish.

Lawnmowers have great utility in giving a neat and tidy look to the blades of the grass. Because it trims the dead grass and allows for the growth of healthier grass, it is a very beneficial service for your lawn. If you do choose to not purchase the recommended tools for your lawn, you must use a lawnmower which is extremely important.

Shears are one of those tools that are used to keep the hedges around the lawn with cutting and trimming the hedges as needed. If you have a creative streak in you, then you can even design your hedges according to your fancy with the help of shears. Therefore, it is a quite important tool for your home lawn and garden.

Other than the afore mentioned tools, rakes are very important to the health of your lawn. With the help of rakes, you can remove the leaves from your Los Altos garden. This is a very important thing to do as leaves that pile up do not let water and sunlight reach your grass and thusly the grass could die.

Finding these tools should not be difficult as any home hardware store or local home improvement store will stock these important tools. So, if you use these tools for maintaining your lawn, there is no reason why you should not have a glowing and healthy garden throughout the year and that too, without the assistance of professionals who specialize in metal landscape edging.
