A successful landscaping plan or garden requires some consideration to the detailed  factors of the entire plan before deciding on the different components of your design. One very important consideration is the climate and weather. Whatever elements or design style you go with, the elements and materials you use should work well with the climate in your area. Having severe climate changes that you’re not aware of can affect your landscaping and your plants. In areas that go through all four seasons, landscaping and gardens will feel the effects of these seasonal changes as well. This is probably one of the better reasons for paying close attention to your landscaping plans and ideas. Here are some considerations that might be helpful in designing landscapes or gardens that will work in most any climate.

Plant choices should be backed by a little knowledge of what works and what’s available in your area. Planting native plants, which is a common practice of most Southwest landscape designs, will increase your chances of a successful landscape in any climate.  Planting native plants wherever they will work in your garden or landscape will do a lot to make your landscape and garden more maintenance and care free. Native plants are already use to your local soil types so there’s usually no problem from moving plants to a different soil. Because they’ve been grown in your area, natives will also be adapted to your climate. It’s a good chance that you’ll find a lot of native plants in your area that work well in gardens and landscaping.

You can also plant for climate by using plants for Mediterranean landscape designs or tropical areas. The bright and colorful flowers of many tropical plants will add a lot of flavor to most landscaping and garden designs. The good thing about some tropical plants is that they actually grow in colder climates. Just get to know which of the tropical plants have this ability, and then you’re ready to start planning for that all-climate landscape design of your own creation. Some of the tropical plants that you can grow even in non-tropical climates are Oo-La-La Bougainvillea or Purple Queen Bougainvillea; MidKnight Blue Agapanthus; Full Moon Hibiscus; and the Itsy Bitsy Red Hibiscus. Lantana, a profuse continuous bloomer, is also a good selection in many areas which comes in several different shades from a faded lavender to bright shades of yellow. You can also have Mandevillas, which have trumpet-like flowers attached to tropical vines, and are very fast growing.  If you wanted that type of look, there are enough tropical plant varieties to give your landscaping some interest for all seasons in many different climates.

Another key to having an all-climate landscaping design is to diversify. For example,  you can use plants in the landscaping with different bloom times and patterns. In this way, when one type of plant finishes its season, you’ll still have something blooming to look at in your landscaping or garden. The key here is a little research and planning for the different bloom schedules of your different plant choices. Choose at least one or two that blooms in each season.

Besides plants, you can also use other ornaments in your landscaping to add more aesthetic interest. Ornaments, garden decor, and other decorative items generally work well since you don’t have to worry about them getting damaged because of climate or weather changes. You can also use different elements like fountains, statues, pavers, pathways, and other hardscapes to make your landscaping more appealing.

The concept of Xeriscaping, or dry landscaping, was formulated in 1981 by the local utilities departmane in Denver, Colorado. The purpose of Xeriscaping is to landscape private or pubic properties in a manner that makes it possible for them to put up with the long drought situations which are common in Colorado in addition to other desert states. The most obvious argument for xeriscaping is saving money. In the desert west, the only way to maintain a lawn is to water it almost daily. Another good model is the Troy Bilt Chipper Shredders.

Purposely landscaping your yard with plants which call for less water will help decrease your water bills. A more long-range good thing about xeriscaping would be the maintenance of reservoirs and aquifers. These extremely necessary water sources are frequently the primary origin of municipal water for lots of areas around the country, and their presence is dependent upon more water into them than is pumped out. Naturally, we are not responsible for the rainfall in a particular location, but we may do something to exploit less of that valuable water so it may be there during long periods of drought, when that resource is needed to the greatest extent.

Xeriscaping can take many forms and be found in many degrees of concentration. It is conceivable to keep a lawn of sorts and continue to save water; yet it is additionally attainable to own a beautiful yard without even one piece of grass on it. Learning which plants to employ and the manner in which to protect your terrain will allow you to experience a nice-looking yard in any weather. Xeriscaping will also enable you to tolerate the upcoming drought cycle with your curb appeal in one piece.

First, we ought to assert the glaring fact: any lawn is a water-pig. The smaller amount of lawn you keep in your lot, the less water you are going to use to maintain that yard. If you really need a plot of green, however, you can get several kinds of grass which call for less water than the rest.

These “dry” grasses including St. Augustine grass might not be as green or abundant as other types of lawn, but when you experience that seasonal dry spell, yours will probably be the most attractive yard in the neighborhood.

Shrinking your lawn is another choice, as is outright replacing it. Mulched plantings will additionally occupy space, dress up your yard, and additionally help the ground to preserve water for the duration of dry spells. Some kinds of ground covers can fashionably replace your lawn and protect your soil.

The facts of our third millenium determine that we must become smarter about our water usage as a nation. A healthy, green lawn shows pride of ownership and is often the first impression to guests and passersby. While spring and summer mowing, weeding and watering are important, a robust lawn needs care and attention all year. In order to promote a healthy spring carpet, it is important to winterize grass properly.

Winterizing Vital In Cold Climates

Winterizing is particularly necessary in colder areas where winter frost and snow covers the ground for extended periods. Contrary to popular belief, grass doesn’t die in the winter. Rather, it hibernates during the long, cold, sunless months much like a bear or deer. Winterizing is especially helpful if the lawn isn’t in optimal health to begin with.

One backyard plan you can use will help you do your landscaping. You should never go to a garden center and just buy whatever plants you see. This will make your yard look cluttered and haphazard. Draw up some landscaping plans to make your yard look professional and beautiful.

Prepare or Beware

If possible before the first frost, rake debris and leaves from the lawn to allow sunlight and the earth’s nutrients into the soil during the winter. Keeping the lawn free of dead or dying organic matter will prevent disease and mold from setting in. The act of raking also lightly aerates the soil, allowing a deeper penetration of sun and moisture.

If you are interested in a pergola kit so that you can add your own patio pergola, you’ll find numerous styles online. Since one of the advantages of online shopping is being able to find a wide range of merchandise at the best prices, your online search can be much more fruitful than going to a local lumberyard. In addition, you will be able to look at hundreds of photos of pergolas others have installed on their patios, and you can find a lot of creative ways that people have added pergolas in order to extend their living space.

Check The Lawn pH

Before winterizing, make sure the lawn’s pH levels are optimal. PH levels can shift due to rain and leaf cover, so pick up a pH testing kit at a garden center to make sure your lawn is at a healthy level. Healthy pH levels allow the lawn to better absorb nutrients and prepare it for new spring growth. PH levels can be adjusted using specific fertilizer formulated to restore balance.

By properly winterizing the lawn, the beautiful green carpet of springtime is just a few short months away

I’ve been trying for about a year now to sell my home, but thanks to the housing market still being pretty bad, it doesn’t look like that’s possible. So I’m thinking of pulling the property out of the listings, making some improvements, and giving it another go a couple years as time goes on. I was hoping to move into a smaller place with a lower mortgage and property tax burden, but I suppose I can survive like this for around a little while longer. For the time being, I must get some painters, plumbers, and electricians in here, and look through some front yard landscaping ideas to brighten things up a bit.

I was actually hoping to get some front yard landscaping ideas just from driving around the neighborhood, but that’s not feasible. It seems that people around here only look closely at the backyard — which I guess makes sense since that’s where they spend most of time. Everyone has a deck with a barbecue grill, and some folks even have swimming pools, so we have a lot of nice backyards in the area. But everyone, myself included, could certainly use a few more front yard landscaping ideas.

I’m planning on checking the internet for free of charge front yard landscaping ideas before I sit down and talk to some professionals about getting the work done. I’m not even sure what I can do with the area at this time, but will probably stick to some simple stuff at the beginning. I’d like to make the house look more inviting and add some “curb appeal” that will assist me sell the place down the road. I know some people go all out with cobblestone walkways, exotic trees and bushes, and wrought-iron gates. As much as I would love to add those elements to my property, there’s just no way I could afford those types of improvements, so I’m going to go with something much more basic. I’m sure I’ll find suitable front yard landscaping ideas on those totally free design sites. It’s just going to be a matter of choosing a theme and getting someone to implement it for me.

I don’t know if these types of improvements will end up making a difference in selling the house, but they can’t hurt. Plus, if I end up staying here even longer than expected, I’ll at least have a nicer place to live in, right? It’s actually a win-win situation if I want to think about it that way!

It shouldn’t take greater than a couple weekends of sifting through front yard landscaping ideas to get a basic outline of what I want to accomplish. Then I’ll spend a Saturday talking to landscapers, and get them in to do the work as quickly as possible. If all goes smoothly, I might get everything done in a month or so. I better get cracking!
